  History

Derby Gaol was constructed in 1756. Situated off the A52 to the west of the City Centre, the Gaol has since been split into three buildings. Whilst in two of the buildings the remains of the Gaol now serve as cellars, the third building has been maintained and is currently run by Local Historian Richard Felix.

  Investigation

SPG investigated this location in July 2004. Several team members felt more distressed in the Debtors Cell than the Condemned cell. This was later revealed to be because the cells had actually been labelled the wrong way round. A Trigger object and flour tray experiment was set up in the Condemned Cell and the room was locked off. On return we found an indentation in the flour which after experimentation found that this was likely caused by an object placed from above and not from accidental placing of an object in the tray. The trigger objects which were sandstone pebbles had also been affected having been split in two whilst not moving outside of the outline drawn around them. Team members felt general unease, sadness and in some instances chest pains in the cells. A lock off camera in the Debtors cell picked up three light anomalies and also picked up some EVP close to the camera apparently saying what sounds like "favour". Unfortunately we are unable to access any footage we caught for this investigation.
