Crewe Lyceum

There have been several theatres built on the site, in 1882, 1887 and 1911. The third rebuild forms the majority of the building that we see today and was built as a result of a fire that devastated the second incarnation of the theatre in 1910. A Roman Catholic church stood on the site until 1876 and was built for Irish Rail workers in the area. After a chequered history and multiple owners during the 20th century the theatre moved to the ownership of Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council in the early 1990s and after an increase of popularity under the council the building was renovated during the mid 1990s. The theatre remains popular today.

SPG investigated this location in November 2004. Several residual energies were picked up in the auditorium. Our main experience involved a dowsing session in one of the upper circle boxes where a woman was picked up on. After communication with her through the rods the female spirit appeared to introduce the team members present to the rest of her family, a male and two children, although the male energy appeared to be unhappy because the children were present. Two team members experienced a door being slammed near a dressing room, although all team members were accounted for elsewhere in the building. One team member had previously had a vivid dream about a dressing room which appeared to be the dressing room where they were based. During the dream another team member had been "possessed" by an energy in the room. After questioning the energies in the room through dowsing, the team member was brought to the dressing room. Although the team member wasn't "possessed" it seemed that the spirit male connected with this individual and was able to tell his story to him. It appeared that the male had run a show that had been a disaster and now haunted the building because of this. The dream had been reported around four months previously. The same team members conducted a dowsing rod investigation of the bar area where they picked up on the spirit of a monk.
