The Swan Hotel is a old Coaching Inn dating from the mid 1700s. It is thought that the hotel was original two private dwellings that were combined to form the hotel. It is also believed that the hotel is built on the site of a monastic college. Mentioned by Charles Dickens on several occasions, this hotel is now a grade two listed building and is also at the heart of Stafford nightlife, containing a music bar for the general public and hotel guests. The building also stands next door to the Ancient High House, one of the oldest buildings in Stafford town centre.
SPG investigated this location in September 2004. We conducted a detailed tour of the building where our mediums picked up on residual energies of varying era, such as soldiers, 18th century men, women and children. During our tour the team felt that room 203 felt different to the rest of the building. As the team was quite small on this investigation we decided to focus our attention on this room. Through dowsing rods we established the presence of a male and a female. The male appeared to have killed this female and was grounded in room 203, although the female was in visitation. Temperature flucuations were recorded in the room as well as light anomalies - both seen with the naked eye and caught on camera. One team member felt that there was movement in his left pocket. No other team member was near him at the time and he later discovered that a small pouch in the pocket that had been securely tied up had been opened.
