The Blythe Inn is located near Stowe by Chartley in East Staffordshire between Stafford and Uttoxeter. The name of the Inn is taken from the River Blythe that runs nearby. Although historical records are thin on the ground it has been established that the Inn was originally part of a farm. There are also links with Cromwellian forces and King Charles II troops.
SPG investigated this location in January 2009. Before the investigation began the team ate well taking advantage of the Inn's carvery. We focused our investigation on four main areas, the restaurant, bar, pool room and cellar outhouse. Although very little activity was picked up on the night we did catch a couple of light anomalies in the cellar outhouse. The team reconvened in the restaurant to conduct a seance, a first for SPG. Ultimately the team conducted two seances in the room using two different tables and two groups at separate times. The second seance proved more fruitful with information gleaned regarding a spirit within the restuarant who appeared to have been involved in the battle between King Charles II forces and Cromwellian troops. We found out that the spirit was one of the Kings soldiers who was tasked with protecting the King. During this seance the team noted that one of three candles on the table was flickering in an unusual way. At the same time the other two candles were steady and did not flicker. Towards the end of the seance the team began to experience knocking sounds that tended to be in response to questions asked. The knocks appeared to come from the corridor into the Kitchen and the serving area. However when a team member stood in this area the knocks started move location before stopping altogether. 25/01/09 - We are currently analysing our footage. We will upload any footage as soon as this is completed.
